Harley "Hod" L. Christ, 95, passed away at 12:17 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Snyder Village in Metamora.
He was born on April 6, 1914, in Washington, the son of Walter B. and Emma Blumenshine Christ. He married Mary H. Adams on Aug. 5, 1967, in Washburn, Ill.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years; two brothers, Eldon Christ of Washburn and Walter (Kathy) Christ of Metamora; and one sister, Margaret Flanagan of Fort Myers, Fla.
He was preceded in death by one infant sister, Marcella Christ, and one brother, Maynard Christ.
Further surviving are 14 nephews and 13 nieces.
He was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII.
He was a farmer in the Metamora area for many years. He also worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co., starting in 1966 and retiring in 1979.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Washburn as well as the Washburn American Legion Post 661.
He was an amateur radio operator, with a call sign of W9ALU.
