Michael enlisted for Civil War army service, August 11, 1862, at Amherst, Ohio(Lorain County), in Company F, 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, as a private soldier, for a 3-year term of service. Occupation: Carpenter. He was Mustered out with Company F at Raleigh, North Carolina, June 12, 1865, at the end of his term of service at the end of the war.
By 1880 he had settled in Illinos, possibly by way of Michigan.
His wife, Martha, was born August 25, 1839, also born in Germany, and died February 12, 1889.
