TERRE HAUTE — Dr. Sally S. Aguilar, 85, of Terre Haute passed away early Saturday morning, June 30, 2007, at Meadows Manor North Nursing Home in Terre Haute. She was born on Dec. 21, 1921, in Tulsa, Okla. to Ascencion Guerrero and Jesusita Gomez Guerrero.
She had many great accomplishments throughout her lifetime. In October 1985, she received her doctorates from the International Bible College and Seminary. She was a pastor of Bethesda Independent Pentecostal Church in Chicago, a pastor of Bethel Church Assembly of God in Chicago, a founding pastor of Elim Assembly of God in Rock Island, Ill., and was also the founder of the Parada Del Nino in Chicago. She was the director of Latin American Bible Institute, Spanish branch in Blue Island, Ill. She was the very first woman to be ordained by the Midwest Latin American District Council of the Assemblies of God. She also received the Pioneer Award for Excellence from the Ministerial Alliance of National Evangelical in the Midwest Region in November 1996.
Survivors include four children, Skip Aguilar and his wife Elaine of Hewitt, Texas, Helen Contreras of Terre Haute, Gilbert "Ron" Aguilar and his wife Vicki of Terre Haute, and the Rev. Fredrick Aguilar and his wife Maria of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She has also left behind many daughters in love.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Enrique Aguilar, who passed away Nov. 18, 1987; a sister, Penny Alvarado; two brothers, Samuel and Adolph Guerrero; a son, Richard Aguilar; and a grandson, David Aguilar.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bethel Pentecostal Church, 2726 West Broadway in Blue Island, Ill. On Friday, visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m, with funeral services at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Peter Contreras officiating. Burial will follow in Beverly Cemetery. Kreuger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations in Sally's name may be made to the Aguilar family.
