PLEASANT PLAINS - Kate S. Butcher, 75, of Pleasant Plains, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at her home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Evanston, the daughter of Albert and Mary Louise Seaman. She married Robert L. Butcher in 1972. A son, David W. McClelland, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Butcher graduated from Euclid Shore High School in Euclid, Ohio, in 1945, and attended music school at Ohio University. She was a charter member of the Scottsdale, Ariz., Chamber Opera Company, Bach Festival Company and the Moonlighters. She was a former member of the Phoenix Civic Opera and formerly was a soloist at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Phoenix and Temple Beth Israel, Phoenix. Mrs. Butcher served as a guest soloist at many Phoenix churches and sang with numerous symphonies and opera companies in Phoenix.
She was a licensed commodities broker, co-founder of Plains Commodities Co. and was active in the commodities industry for 35 years. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Springfield, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, and Springfield Symphony Guild.
Survivors: husband, Robert; two sons, Douglas R. McClelland (wife, Laura Conant), and Daniel F. (wife, Jill) McClelland, both of Springfield; two daughters, Dea S. McClelland of Springfield and Daphne J. (husband, Terry) Miller of Chatham; a stepdaughter, Diane (husband, Jay) Clemmons of Clearwater, Fla.; three stepsons, Robert W. (wife, Joy) Butcher of Pound Ridge, N.Y., Richard Butcher of Phoenix and Paul H. (wife, Sandra) O'Beary of Louisiana; a brother, Albert Seaman of Beaverton, Ore.; a sister, Joan Pfister of Lima, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, Glenn Cope officiating.
