Nancy Springer, a daughter of Nancy (née Long) and Uriah Springer, was born in in Franklin Township, Brown County, Ohio, where her father is counted among the first settlers. The Springer family settled in 1837 in Amity Township, Livingston County, Illinois.

Nancy Springer and Isaac Painter were married on 27 February 1840 in Amity Township, Livingston County, Illinois. The couple had seven children who lived to maturity (and were named his heirs at law in 1869). Nancy Painter died in 1854.

"John W. Reynolds was one of the first Justices of the Peace of Bayou Precinct, and performed the ceremony of marrying the first couple in the township. The happy parties on the occasion were Isaac Painter and Nancy Springer. The nuptials were celebrated in 1840—perhaps a year earlier." The family of Uriah Springer had arrived in township in 1837. Bayou was one of Livingston County's three election precincts established in 1837. Uriah Springer was elected county commissioner for Livingston Co. in 1838. He entered land in that county in the 1840s.
