Velma Marie Atteberry, 85, of Auburn, died on Jan. 11, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Hillsboro, the daughter of John W. and Doris E. Smith. She married Raymond Earl Atteberry on Oct. 12, 1947, in Wares Grove Lutheran Church in Butler and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1986.
Also preceding her in death are her parents; two brothers, Wayne R. and John W. who died as infants; three sisters, Jean Bennett, Georgia Rasure, and Kay Barnes.
Mrs. Atteberry retired from Dickey-John Corp. after many years of service. She worked part-time at Ben Franklin in Auburn, until the store closed. Her job at Harry's Pharmacy brought her joy until her final retirement at 80 years old.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Auburn and was active with Tea Tyme Bible Study and the Ladies Night Out group. She frequently provided baked goods for the church, community functions, friends, and family.
Surviving are three sons, Wayne (Jane) of Belvidere, William (Peggy) and Gary (Denise) both of Auburn; six grandchildren, Geoff (Olgajean), Kelsey, MacKenna, Alexandra, Michael and Colin; one great-grandson, Corbin; two brothers, Ralph "Bud" Warren (Edna) of Shawnee, Kan., and Gary Smith (Judy) of Granby, Co.; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Richard R. Harre officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery following the service. A luncheon will follow at the church.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church kitchen remodel fund.
Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn, is in charge of arrangements.
