Donald L. Adcock, 71, of Atlanta passed away peacefully at his home Saturday (May 31, 2008) surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 4, 1937, in Nashville, Ark., the son of Hubert and Venita Sifford Adcock. He married Gail Cryer on Oct. 15, 1961, at the McLean Methodist Church. He served for two years in the U.S. Air Force, seeing duty in Japan. In 1959 he moved from Hot Springs, Ark., to Bloomington, then later to Atlanta in 1969.
He was employeed for 33 years at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. and was a co-owner of Phanny's Bar in Atlanta.
Don was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, Nascar and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a lifelong golfer.
Mr. Adcock is survived by his wife of 46 years, and devoted children, son, Donny (Karen) Adcock Jr.; daughters, Pam (John) O'Connor, Karen (Jim) Wrenn, Lori Adcock, and Peggy (Brad) Madigan; 14 grandchildren, Nick Adcock; Kelsey, Katy, Ryan and Matt O'Connor; Kristina, Patrick and Nick Wrenn; Melissa, Kaley, Maegan and Chase Brown; and Shelby and Mason Madigan; three great-grandchildren, Hailey and Gage Ivey, and Avery McIntosh; two sisters, Wanda (Harold) Wallace and Shirley Overton.
Mr. Adcock was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
Don's sense of humor and quick wit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed.
