Lettia YORK is the third of seven children born to Edmond YORK and his second wife Margaret LINDERMAN. All of her brothers and one sister were born in Randolph County, North Carolina before the family migrated into Posey County southern Indiana in about 1814 by way of Kentucky. The family soon migrated just across the Wabash River into White County, Indiana.

Lettia YORK age twenty first married on 09 Apr 1812 in Henderson County, Kentucky to John Harrison HAWTHORN.

Lettia YORK and John Harrison HAWTHORN soon had a son Edmund HAWTHORN named after her father. He was born on 20 Jan 1813 in Henderson County, Kentucky. John Harrison HAWTHORN was killed in the winter of 1818 in a mill accident at Lowry's Mill in Carmi, White County, Illinois.

The first white settlers came to White County between 1807 and 1809. The first settlements were near the Little Wabash River and Big Prairie, one of the numerous prairies in the county. The city of Carmi was founded in 1814, and incorporated in 1816.

“My first recollections of Carmi are, that in 1814 or the spring or 1815 that I was at the mill now owned by Mr. (George S.) Staley, but then built and owned by Lowry Hay and Leonard White. It was a small frame building with two runs of stones, grinding only corn. It stood about where the present mill is, but a little further into the river. The dam was a sort of frame structure. Mr. Hay lived in a double cabin, on the bank northeast of the mill. Immediately around the mill there were no houses and none where Carmi now is located.” This was extracted from page 584 of History of White County, Illinois. Published in January 1, 1883.

Lettia YORK age twenty seven married a second time a few moths after the tragic death of her first husband. On 08 Mar 1819 in White County, Illinois she married Robert TINSLEY age twenty.

Lettia YORK and Robert TINSLEY did not have any known children:
