Death: Sep. 23, 1852
Edgar County

Son of John & Martha (Clark) Allen. Husband of Catherine (Camerer) Nolan.

Died, at his residence in Edgar County, Illinois, on the 23d of Sept. 1852, CHARLES W. ALLEN, aged 35 years and 3 months, of the Flux and Typhoid Fever. His illness(s) were severe, but only lasted about three weeks. He bore it with patience and resignation. Charles Allen, in his life, sustained a good moral character. But he never made a .............of religion, until a few days previous to his death, when under the influence of disease, he became convinced of the necessity of a change of heart, in order to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; and after ............seeking by faith and prayer, he gave strong evidence, that God, for Christ's sake, had pardoned his sins, and gave him a strong hope of a blessed immortality, and seemed anxious for the moment to come when he should be permitted to enter the fair climes of Paradise, to join the friends who were gone before. He expressed a strong wish that the change which had taken place in his mind and heart, should be published to the world; doubtless, to ...........a testimony that he had renounced the principles of Universalism, which for some time he had partially embraced, and that he might warn others, of this dangerous error, and to give testimony to the truth, as it is in Jesus, and he no doubt experienced the sentiments of the Poet, which says: "Jesus can make a dying bed, Feel soft as downy pillows are." With him, Death had lost his sting and he could cry victory of Death. Thus passed away one, who was beloved by all that knew him; and especially his bereaved Companion and friends. He was loving and kind to all--inoffensive and charitable in his life, and has left friends and neighbors to mourn for him, but our loss is his gain.
