From the Bennington Banner April 20, 1976 Mrs. Hope A. Adams Mrs. Hope Augusta Lyon Adams, 91, of 106 Norton St., Bennington died at the Putnam Memorial Hospital on Monday. Daughter of Frank and Minnie (Baker) Lyon, she was born Nov 8, 1884 on the Harmon Farm where the Harmon Inn was located during revolutionary days, in West Bennington where the Bennington Airport now stands. Educated in rural schools and a graduate of North Bennington High School in 1905, she later went to Michigan State Normal College at Ypsilanti and graduated in 1911. She taught in the midwest for 19 years, the last 12 at Cleveland, Ohio, before moved to Manchester Center, after marrying Ira L. Adams in 1929. During World War II when the younger men were required to do war work or enter the services she took an apprenticeship in barbering and assisted her husband in his barber shop for eight years. He died in 1962. She remained in Manchester Center until 1971 when she moved to Bennington. She leaves a sister Marjorie Green of St. Petersburg, Fla. and a brother Marshall Lyon of Shaftsbury, cousins, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 3:00 pm from the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerome J. Hevey, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Manchester, officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Bennington. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and should they desire, contributions in Mrs. Adams memory may be made to the Laural School for Retarded Children in Manchester Center.
