Lydia (Pizzola) Alvarez, 83, of Plainville, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on January 8, 2006. She was the wife of the late Emilio Alvarez. She was born on February 24, 1922, in Roccacasale, a province of L'Aquila, Italy, daughter of the late Domenic and Frances (Antolini) Pizzola. She moved to the United States at the age of two, and resided with her family in Plainville for the past 81 years. She married her childhood sweetheart, Emilio in February of 1946, to whom she was happily married for 25 years. Lydia was employed at General Electric for over 30 years, before retiring in 1985. Above all, she centered her life around her family, and loved nothing more than spending time with her granddaughters. She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, David C. and Sandra (Small) Alvarez, with whom she made her home; her granddaughters, Jessica L. Alvarez and Sarah (Alvarez) Gonzalez and her husband, Mignel; and the apple of her eye, her only great-grandson, Devin Gonzalez. In addition, she leaves a brother, Gennaro Pizzola and his wife, Elizabeth (Lippia) Pizzola; a brother-in-law, Charles Alvarez and his wife, Mary; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Gino Pizzola. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville, CT.
