BETHANY — John "Jack" Barry, 83, husband of Ruth (Strumpf) Barry, passed away on Tuesday at Saint Mary's Hospital.
Born in Waterbury on Oct. 10, 1928, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Howard) Barry. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1946. He was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean conflict and was a Purple Heart medal recipient. Jack retired as a lieutenant from the CT Department of Correction working over 20 years in Cheshire. During his retirement he also worked in security at Saint Mary's Hospital.
He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Lady Huskies basketball team. He was a resident of Prospect before moving to Bethany in the 1970s and a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church. Besides his wife of over 50 years, he is survived by a son, Michael Barry and his wife, Elizabeth, and two grandchildren, Michael J. and Brianna Rose Barry, all of Wolcott. He was predeceased by a son, John Jr.
Jack's family would like to extend special thanks for the compassionate service of his caregivers Doreen, Maria and Christie.
Funeral will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 690 Woodtick Road in Wolcott to St. Anthony's Church for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mt.
