WOODBURY — Mildred (Iapaluchi) Assenza, 88, passed into God's eternal care where she was greeted with open arms by her husband, George N. Assenza, on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Saint Mary's Hospital with her family by her side.
Mrs. Assenza was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Imbimbo) Iapaluchi. A retired LPN, Mrs. Assenza had worked at Saint Mary's Hospital, where she especially enjoyed working in the maternity ward. She loved to read and crochet and was a member of the prayer blanket ministry at St. Teresa's Church, where she was a communicant.
Mrs. Assenza was devoted to her family and enjoyed caring for others. She is survived by her three sons, George Assenza and his wife, Carol, of Eastham, Mass., Vincent Assenza and his wife, Francine, of Ocean Port, N.J., and Richard Assenza and his wife, Betsy, of Goshen; her daughter, Maryanne Kaminski and her husband, Bill, of Woodbury; eight great-grandchildren; and her cat, Chloe.
Funeral 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, from the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St., to St. Teresa's Church, Main Street South, for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
