PETERBOROUGH, NH -- Gertrude G. "Trudy" (Longval) Boucher, 90, of Peterborough, New Hampshire and formerly of Lowell, died Sunday morning, October 14th at Warde Health Center in Windham, N.H. She was the beloved wife of 42 years to the late Captain Arthur F. Boucher -- a retired Merchant Marine who died in 1988.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, February 2, 1922, the daughter of the late Eugene and the late Dulice (Germaine) Longval, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1940 where she was a Captain in the Girls Officer Regiment. She then went on to graduate from Lowell Textile School in Lowell, now part of U-Mass Lowell, and also from the New England School of Art in Boston, majoring in Fashion Design. She then worked in New York City for Saks 5th Avenue as a fashion illustrator until her marriage to Arthur in 1945.
As matriarch of a very large family, Trudy loved spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family will always remember the Christmas holidays with her tins filled with a variety of baked goods and home-made candies, including her famous gingerbread houses.
Among her many activities, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, bowling, refinishing antique furniture, arts & crafts and going to auctions. She was a former member of the Monadnock Quilters Guild and St. Peter's Parish in Peterborough.
Trudy is survived by a daughter Margot B. Kawecki and her husband Paul of Wallingford, CT; five sons David A. Boucher and his wife Liz Ewart of Olney, MD, Clyde L. Boucher and his wife Barbara of Marlton, NJ, Marc E. Boucher and his wife Barbara of Houston, TX, Guy C. Boucher and his wife Susan of Keller, TX and Eugene P. Boucher and his wife Judy of Windham, NH; seventeen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother Louis P. Longval of Lempster, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
