She married Don Mahan Feb. 5, 1955, in Oklahoma City. She worked for the Ector County Independent School District in the cafeteria for 13 years, which included Odessa High and Hays Elementary. She was a member of the First Church of God.
Dean was preceded in death by a brother, J.C. McCann.
Survivors are her husband, Don of Odessa; son, D.R. Mahan Jr. and wife Melissa of Broken Arrow, Okla.; daughter, Mary Janssen and husband David of Odessa; sisters, Ruby McKissick of Bartlesville, Okla., Demerious Collins of Stuttgart, Ark., and Marilyn Mahan of Chandler, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Jonathan and Anna Janssen and Austin and Sara Mahan.
Dean will be remembered most for her silent witness and for being Mom to all her kids that came through the cafeterias and the kids who grew up with her kids.
