Sister to Joseph, Fredolin, & Anthony Meier or Meyer, Frances Meier Kruse, & Agnes Meyer Kuechler.

Missouri D/C #33772

Phillipina Meyer married Henry Sasse Feb. 5, 1851.

Mrs. Phillipina Augsburger Died Tuesday Eveing in 88th Year.

Mrs. Phillipina Augsburger, one of the few women of this community who have lived past the four score year mark, passed away Tuesday evening of this week at her home in the west part of the city, following an illness of several weeks. Her death resulted from a general breakdown in health, due to the infirmities of extreme age.
Mrs. Augsburger before her marriage was Miss Phillipina Meyer. She was born in Baden, Germany, Nov. 24, 1828, and at the time of her death had reached the ripe old age of 87 years, 10 months and 9 days. During her early childhood her mother died, and when about 18 years of age she came with her father to America. They came directly to Brunswick, and from that time, almost seventy years ago, our subject has made her home in Brunswick.
Her first marriage was to Henry Sasse, a pioneer settler of this place, and of this marriage four children were born, all of whom survive. They are Charles L. Sasse, of this place, Sophia, now Mrs. Hugo Bartz, Sr., of Keytesville; William F. Sasse of Tonasket, Washington, and Miss Millie Sasse, who lived at home with her mother, and was her constant and devoted companion. Mr. Sasse died in 1865, and three years later our subject was married to Louis Augsburger, who died in 1875. One child born of this marriage, died in infancy. Besides her four children, Mrs. Augsburger is survived by one sister, Mrs. Agnes Kuechler of near Triplett.
Having lived here nearly three score and ten years, Mrs. Augsburger belonged to the old school of citizenship, the real pioneers of this part of the country. Although she bore the weight of nearly 88 years, her mind was an active, and her intellect as keen as that of a person half her age. She lived much in the past, read extensively, and took a deep interest in questions of public importance. She read with interest every day, of the welfare of her Fatherland in the great European conflict. She was a woman of noble character, untiring industry and energy, devoting a long life of love and service to her home, family and friends, and leaving a memory to be cherished by one and all. She had been a devoted member of the Catholic church for many years. Burial in the Lower Cemetery. (Brunswick City Cemetery.)
