Suggested edit: Taken from the 1954 Fredonia Jubilee Book:

Johann Schlecht was born in 1841 in South Russia, the son of Friedrich and Elenora (Roth) Schlecht. Years went by until 1863, he married Caroline Ross. They had seen the future was rather dark, so in 1899, they left their father land, arriving at Kulm, N.D. on March 2 of the same year, where they settled on a homestead eight miles northwest of Fredonia.

Ten children wer born to this union of which three are living: Caroline, Mrs. Sam Suko, Gackle, N.D.; Mathias Schlecht, Fredonia, N.D.; Michael Schlecht, Fredonia, N.D. Mr. Schlecht died in 1929, and Mrs. Schlecht in 1918. They were members of the German Congregational Church. Their grandson, Elmer Schlecht is on the farm today (2023).
