Veidja Elizabeth Christensen, 92, Crosby, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center, Crosby.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby. Burial will follow at Danville Cemetery in rural Westby, Mont. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the Funeral Home.

Veidja was born on Jan. 5, 1920, in Daneville Township, the daughter of Peter and Meta (Freund) Johnson. She grew up on her parent's farm until she graduated from the eighth grade in Daneville Township. She worked as a homemaker's assistant for her aunt and uncle, Marie and Lloyd Kittleson in Westby, Mont. She worked as a telephone operator in the Westby Office before marrying Clarence Christensen at Daneville Lutheran Church on Oct. 5, 1938. They were active in this church and community activities while engaged in farming on the family farm. They also were caretakers of Clarence's mother and father until their deaths.

In 1961, they purchased and operated the Grenora Mercantile for several years. This business venture closed in 1997. They moved to Crosby where Clarence was employed as a CNA and Veidja worked as a cook for many years. Veidja retired from the hospital and did home daycare for some time. After operating the daycare, she and dad retired and became feeding assistants for the Crosby Good Samaritan Home. In 1992, she was admitted to Crosby Good Samaritan Center, where she resided until her passing.

Veidja and Clarence enjoyed singing duets, accompanied by Clarence's guitar and occasionally harmonica for various churches, community events including weddings and funerals. Veidja enjoyed crocheting and made several afghans for family members and friends. She also sewed "crazy" quilts from various family members worn clothing which were gifts to family members. Christmas trees mounted on frames of old jewelry became Christmas decorations in family and friend's homes. She enjoyed being family historian and maintained written family documentation.

Veidja was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; son, Harlen; grandson, Joey; great grandson, Lucas James Pedersen; parents, Peter and Meta; sister, Vera Nelson and brothers, Harvey and Reuben Johnson.

She is survived by daughter, Lois Hieronymus (Pedersen); grandchildren, Lt. Col. James Pedersen, USAF, Dr. Janelle (Harley) Jones, and Kimberly Hieronymus: all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Bradley Hieronymus, Bozeman, Mont., and great-granddaughter, Ashley Pedersen, Colorado Springs; and sister, Lila Raaum, Bethel Home in Williston.
