Haavig Rites Held Wednesday
Was Early Day Resident of Fram Township

Albert O. Haavig, 71, pioneer farmer of Fram township passed away at Elbow Lake, Minn., Friday of last week. Death was due to a heart condition. Mr. Haavig was about to start back to North Dakota for the summer when he was stricken. He had been in poor health for the past two years.

A native of Grant county, Minnesota, born there June 19, 1879, he came to North Dakota with his parents, Hans and Turi Haavig in 1899. He took a homestead in Fram township where he lived all his life. The past three winters he had spent either in the west of at Elbow Lake.

He was married to Mathilda Smith in 1898 at Aastad, Minn. To this union were born the following children: Sylvester, Portland, Ore. Mrs. Walter Leidal (Tillie), Grenora, N.D.; Mrs. Wm. Pierce (Genetta), Spokane, Wash.; Henry, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Myrtle Odegard, Seattle; Mrs. Ed Rogelstad (Nora), Oak Ridge, Oregon; Kenneth, Seattle; Mrs. Roy Brown (Verna), New Rockford; Eddie, Seattle. Mrs. Haavig died in 1923 and he remarried in 1926 to Edith Kolle at Moorhead, Minn. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. William Beauclaire (Meryl) and Hazel, both on Minot. (One daughter, Eunice, died in 1921.)

He is also survived by a brother, Martin Haavig, Elbow Lake, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. John Carlson, Wendell, Minn.; and Julia Haavig, Fergus Falls, Minn.

He was a charter member of the Bethania Lutheran church and active in church work for many years. He was also township supervisor for some time.

Funeral services were held from the Bethania church in Wellsburg on Wednesday, May 31 with Rev. Marvin Odland officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Pall-bearers were Clifford Sannan, Newell Lillemoen, Norris Hovland, Nels Solbert, Johnnie Johnson and Adolph Johnson. Honorary pall-bearers were Isaac Kolle, G.P. Melass, S T. Lillemon, Edgard Bjorke, Fred Meland and Lewis Lee.
