Dennis Jerome Cortney, 79 years 11 months and 10 days, of Alexandria, NE, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE. He was born on the family farm near Alexandria,NE on April 27, 1933, the son of William and Sabina (Costelloe) Cortney. He enjoyed being around people, helping others, and working with military organizations. He was very active in the American Legion and the VFW in Rock Island, IL. Dennis served in the United States Army, May 18, 1953 – April 30, 1956, during the Korean War. He also worked for the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, IL for 26 years retiring in 1988. Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Kathleen Selig of Fairbury, NE and Ruth Disney of Superior,NE; and brother, Jim and his wife, Elaine Cortney of Fairbury. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary and Ann Domling; brothers, Thomas, Bernard, John and Bill Cortney; sister-in-law, Joyce Cortney; and brothers-in-law, Larry Domling, Kenneth Selig, and Norman Disney.
