John W. Bauman was born to John and Hattie Wilson Bauman on a farm near Nelson, Nebraska, January 23, 1908. He passed away December 22, 1981, at Clay Center, Nebraska, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 29 days.
February 25, 1949, John was united in marriage to Vella Melvin at the Methodist parsonage in Nelson. To this union one son was born.
John lived most of his life in the Nelson area, where he was engaged in farming and livestock.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and a sister, Esther, who died as a child.
Survivors include his wife, Vella of rural Nelson; his son, Randy of rural Nelson; two step sons, Marlin Cox of rural Nelson and Arlyce Cox of Superior; a sister, Mrs. Rodney (Edith) Jelaca of Scio, Oregon; and 7 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 26, at the United Methodist Church in Nora, with Rev. Richard Markland officiating. Pallbearers were Garth Melvin, Vernon Melvin, Eugene Ahrens, Edwin Ahrens, Morris Skinner and Owen Champlin. "Oh, Happy Day" and "One Day At A Time" were sung by Helen Gebers and Joannette Kubicek with Melba Lynch as organist. Burial was in the Nora Cemetery. Arrangements were by Klawitter Funeral Home of Nelson.
