Charles Edwin Annas
Charles Edwin Annas, 75, of Valley Run Street, Hickory, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 19, 1933 in Caldwell County to the late Hoy and Ollie Pope Annas.
Mr. Annas was a 1951 graduate of Hudson High School and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College before being drafted into the military. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve for six years. He was retired from General Electric Company, where he received a special award for innovative packaging design for overseas transformer shipment. Mr. Annas went on to be the co-owner of Annas Cabinet Shop. He was recognized as a master wood craftsman and cabinet maker. He was widely known as someone who could build or fix almost anything. Mr. Annas was retired from Industrial Seaming where he was recognized for 22 years of dedicated service. He also served as a charter member of the Sawmills Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue and was a former assistant chief. He was very active in Whitnel United Methodist Church, serving on the board of trustees, church council, pastor parish committee and finance committee. He also served as a former lay leader and president of the United Methodist Men, chief cook for United Methodist Men and chief usher. Mr. Annas was a lifelong resident of Caldwell County, well known for preparing delicious smoked barbecue for church, community, civic and family events.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Trilla Stallings Annas of the residence; sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and the Rev. Rowe Teague of Hudson and Carolyn and Joe Icard of Hickory; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, J.C. and Christine Eller of Lenoir and James and Margaret Stallings of Connelly Springs; a nephew and his wife, Robert and Debbie Eller of Hudson; nephew and niece, Scott and Tamara Eller of Hudson; a niece, Teresa Teague of Fuquay-Varina; a niece and her husband, Dr. Carmen and Joe Teague of Charlotte; a niece and her husband, Brandi and Jay Rabon of Matthews; and great-nieces and nephews Abby and Drew Eller, Trilla Belle, Tattie Anne, Titus and Tyre Teague and Avery, Addison and Alana Rabon; special adopted family, Mark, Cherry, Ashley and Jessie Moss; and favorite dog, McKinley.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitnel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dana Bunn and Leon Morrow officiating.
Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be active members of Sawmills Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue. Honorary pallbearers will be Whitnel United Methodist Men, Roy Beach's Sunday school class, Mammy's Breakfast Club and active and retired members of Sawmills Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue.
