John Ellison was born in Coles, IL. January 9, 1845 and died February 3, 1924 in Geneva, Fillmore Co., NE, at the age 79. He married to Rachel J. Raines April 7, 1864. After their marriage they lived on a farm in Illnois for a few years. In 1871 they came by wagon to Fillmore County, Nebraska and purchased a farm in Chelsea township. They there fore experienced some share in the fortunes and misfortunes of pioneer live, but through patience, diligence and frugality were successful in building a comfortable home. To them were born sixteen children, eight of whom preceded their father to the World of spirits. His companion also was called from earth on May 26, 1907. After a lapse of five years he was joined in marriage to Mrs. Mary James, the event taking place November 29, 1912, since which time their residence has been in Geneva.
Mr Archer became a Christian and a member of the United Brethren Church before coming to Nebraska and through the years has been loyal to the Lord and to the church of his choice. In his declining years he was more deeply concerned about the things of the Kingdom than the thins of the warld. He had been in failing health for the last few years, and the end came in the evening of February 3, 1924. His age was 79 years and 21 days. He leaves in mourn his departure, his wife, five sons and three daughters. George and John of Gentry, Ark., Samuel of Vining, OK., Mrs Lydia Hanekamp of Geneva, Emery of Akron, Colo., Arthur of Geneva, Mrs. Minnie Boruff of Medford, OK. There are also forty-nine Grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He had a host of friends who will fondly cherish his memory. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the United Brethren Church in charge of Rev. E. H. Pontius. Interment was in Chelsea Cemetery. His body was interred February 8, 1924 in Fillmore, NE
