Funeral services for E. J. "Shorty" Armstrong were held Thursday of last week at Grace Lutheran church in Lewellen and burial was in the Ash Hollow cemetery.

Ernest J. Armstrong was born November 7, 1892 at Rushville, Indiana, the son of Gary and Mary Armstrong and he departed this life on March 29, 1966 at the age of 73 years, four months and 22 days.

It was over 50 years ago that he came to this county and on August 8, 1915, he was united in marriage to Marie Schutt [editor: daughter of William and Doris (Hoist) Schutt¹] at Julesburg, [Colorado] after which they engaged in farming.

To this union was born seven children. He was received into membership in the Grace Lutheran church of Lewellen by baptism in October of 1942.

He is survived by his wife, Marie and his children, Bud of Farmington, New Mexico; Violet Garkie of Denver; June Becher of Hastings; Dale of Fort Morgan, Colorado; Gary of Billings, Montana; Dean of Lewellen and Jean Orr of Burlington, Colorado. 12 grand-children and one great grandchild and many friends.

Rev. Wilfred Henning conducted the final rights with Mrs. Howard McCormick organist and music by the Lutheran choir. Holechek Funeral home had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Harold Moffat, Harold Miller, Jack Leach, Alfred Smith, James Kriha and Lvle Brown.
