John was born in Philadelphia, raised in Newfield and was a longtime Vineland city resident. He was the husband of the late Lelia (Overstreet) Abbate, who died in 1994. John was a professional musician all of his life and also taught private music lessons. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians and also an amateur ham radio operator with the radio call sign of W2RPN. John was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.
He is survived by one daughter, Jeanette Celi1; son, John A. Abbate; and one granddaughter, Tara Celi.
His funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Road, Vineland, where relatives and friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Siloam Cemetery in Vineland.
