GERALD LEE BATZEL SR., 46, of Forked River, LACEY, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Mr. Batzel was born in Lakewood and was a lifelong resident of Ocean County before moving to Forked River in 1999. Mr. Batzel was employed by the Loori Bus Company of Whiting for three years. He enjoyed landscaping, loved music and was a very loving and caring man who loved his wife and kids, he will be dearly missed.
He was predeceased by his father, Milton, in 1989. Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Cheryl Hull Batzel; two sons, Gerald Jr. age 20, and Douglas age 11, whom reside at home; his mother, Geneva of Appomattox, Va.; two brothers, William Batzel and Kenneth Batzel, both of Virginia; a sister, Dorothy Butler and brothers, Thomas Butler and Douglas Gapinski and his fiance Joanne Legari. He is also survived by his best friend, Jimmy Pelletier; his dog, Daisy; and his cat, Tigger.
The viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 Route 9 North, Forked River. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment shall follow at the Ocean County Memorial Park, Waretown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to help defray the funeral costs, c/o Riggs Funeral Home, P.O.
