Deanna Joyce Akkerman, of Mora, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City. She was 75 years old.
Deanna was born on April 1, 1938 in Braham, Minnesota to parents Leon and Ruth (Strandlund) Edholm. She grew up in Brunswick and attended Mora Schools, graduating in 1956. Deanna worked for the Prudential Insurance Company in Minneapolis right after high school for 2 years. On May 30, 1959, Deanna was united in marriage to Harm John Akkerman at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick. Deanna and John made their lifelong home in Mora and were blessed with two daughters, Carol and Joni. Deanna enjoyed many years working for Stark and Stark Accounting in Mora, staying on when the ownership changed to Jere Bartz Accounting.
Deanna was a long time member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Mora and was active in many church committees and activities. She enjoyed politics (a proud democrat) and volunteered many hours helping with local elections. Deanna was a big supporter of the Mora Vasaloppet, helping in many areas including registration over the years. She liked playing cards and golfing, and enjoyed several family trips to Holland. She was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Minnesota Twins. Most important to Deanna was taking care of her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband John; daughters, Carol (Glen) Allman of Mora, and Joni Akkerman (fiancé Mike Grace) of Brooklyn Park; sister Dorothy Siljendahl of Rush City; grandchildren, Bethany (Dustin) Smith, Rebecca (Quinten) Maslonkowski, and Logan Grace; great grandchildren, Dayton and Aiden Smith, and Cadence Maslonkowski; many other relatives and friends.
