BETHEA, IONA - departed this life on Monday, October 23, 2006, in the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus. Mrs. Bethea was born in Dillon, South Carolina on March 23, 1925, to the late Mr. & Mrs. Robert Bethea. She was raised in Dillon and educated in the Dillon public school system. Iona married Wade Bethea in 1942 and then shortly after marriage, they moved to Atlantic City to make a home. In 1943, they became founding members of New Hope Baptist Church where she remained a member and devoted life-long servant. She and her husband had seven children: Wade, Jr., Robert, Thomas, Carolyn, Larry, Mary and Denise. Mrs. Bethea is predeceased by: her husband, Wade, Sr.; and sons, Robert and Thomas. Cherishing fond memories of Mrs. Bethea are: her children, Wade Bethea, Jr. (Tiny), Carolyn Bethea Smith (Charles) of Laurel, Maryland, Larry Bethea (Lois) of Pleasantville, Mary Jones (Jack) of Oakland Park, Florida, Denise Cash (Ronald) of Linwood; sisters, Mary Johnson of Atlantic City, Theressa Hill of Sicklerville, and Thelma Manning of Dillon, SC and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services to Mrs. Bethea will be held 11 AM, Saturday, October 28, 2006, New Hope Baptist Church, 704-706 Lexington Avenue, Atlantic City. A viewing will begin two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in the Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville. Arrangements entrusted to the Greenidge Funeral Homes, Inc., Atlantic City.
