Whiting, USN, was designated Naval Aviator #16 in 1915. Graduated U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1905. Served in Europe during the World War. He made the first catapult launch from the first U.S. aircraft carrier, USS LANGLEY, on Oct. 18, 1922. Placed on the retired list in 1940, but continued active service. Died as a result of a heart attack.
