Ermalyn Vera Price Crowder, 87, of Mount Airy, died Saturday morning, Oct. 27, 2012.

Born March 7, 1925, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Myrl James Price and Edith Louisa Frech Price. She was the wife of the late Harold Truman Crowder, who she married Sept. 15, 1946.

After graduating from Western High School in Baltimore in 1943, she went to work at Revere Copper & Brass Company as a typist and later as a clerk until 1955 when she became a full-time mother and married her husband.

After raising her family, she returned to the workforce as a teacher's aide at Mount Airy Elementary School from 1966 until her retirement in 1986.

She was a charter member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Damascus and continued her membership there until her death. After her relationship with God, her family was the most important aspect of her life and she gave freely of herself to them all, especially caring for and being constantly at the side of her husband from the time of his disablement in 1967 until his death in 2011.

She was an avid reader preferring detective stories, enjoyed live theatre productions as well as traveling with friends and family, and was a frequenter of local yard sales.

Surviving are children Irene Smith, of Mount Airy, Gary Crowder, of Westminster and Ruth Maisel and husband Tom, of Mareeba, Queensland, Australia; grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Jared and Mark Smith, Benjamin Crowder, and Caitlin and Christopher Maisel; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter Jean Vera; a brother, Myrl Price; and sisters Beatrice Price and Ilda Geil.
