Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company C, 72nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on August 26, 1862. He served with the regiment through it's campaign and battles until July 19, 1864, when he was transferred to Company D, 183rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He then served through the end of the war, and was honorably discharged by General Order on may 30, 1865.

On March 3, 1884 he filed for a United States Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #508218, Certificate #281966).

On August 22, 1922 his wife, Elizabeth Hunt, filed for a United States Army Widow's Pension (Application #1192599, Certificate #921809).

"WILLIAM T. HUNT
Veteran of Newspaper Press Rooms Passes Away at 83

William T. Hunt, veteran of many newspaper press rooms, who died at his home, 3312 North Seventeenth street, Thursday afternoon, at the age of 83, will be buried from his residence on Monday, at 11 o'clock.

Mr. Hunt, for five decades known as "Bill" in the Philadelphia newspaper shops, will be followed to his grave in North Laurel Hill Cemetery by many of his old associates and by veterans of the Civil War. He saw four years' service with the Baxter's Fire Zouaves, 72d Pennsylvania Volunteers.

In 1869 Mr. Hunt was made engineer and assistant in the delivery room of the Evening Star, and in 1886 became foreman of the pressroom, also directing the boiler and engine rooms. He continued with that publication until it was suspended in 1900. He had been retired for the past two years.

Mr. Hunt is survived by a widow and one sister, Mrs. Emma Hall, of Germantown. He had no children."
