Obituary: The Stevens Point WI Daily Journal, Saturday, July 14, 1928.
Mrs. Bridget Griffith.
Although looked for during the past few weeks by members of the family and a number of her friends, the death at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon of Mrs. Bridget Hines Griffith occasioned sorrow to scores of Stevens Point people, many of whom knew her for nearly half a century. She passed away at the Adam R. Boyer home, 824 Ellis street, with which family she had lived for nine years. Her illness began eight weeks ago, when she experienced a general breakdown, and she had since been cared for by a trained nurse. The deceased was a native of County Tipperary, Ireland, born there 83 years ago last December 18, but she came to this country with her parents when she was a little girl and located at Hannibal, Missouri. Her marriage to Patrick H. Griffith took place in that city and a few years later, in1882, the family moved to Stevens Point, where Mr. Griffith was engaged in business until shortly before his death in 1904. Three children were born to them, only one of whom survives, William H. Griffith, now a resident of Chicago. He has been here for a week or more, as has also Mrs. Griffith. The latter's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Shannon, came from Winona this afternoon, and other relatives are expected tomorrow. The only other member of Mrs. Bridget Griffith's immediate family is a brother, John Hines of Terrell, Texas. The funeral cortege will leave the Boyer residence shortly before 9 o'clock Monday morning and proceed to St. Sephen's church, where requiem mass will be offered up. Interment will follow beside her husband and daughter and son in the parish cemetery. St. Stephen's Altar society, of which Mrs. Giffith had been a member for many years, will meet at the Boyer home at 8 o'clock Sunday evening to offer prayers.
