George E. Crissman, 88, of Kittanning, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, in Armstrong County Health Center. He was born July 24, 1924, in Adrian. He was the last surviving of the nine children of Elmer E. and Ivy (Toy) Crissman. Mr. Crissman was a self-employed carpenter and also had a contract with the Postal Service that started in 1962 and continues in the family today servicing the Ford City and Freeport areas. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of First Baptist Church, in Kittanning, where he was a former deacon and trustee and a member of the church choir for many years. He was a 55-year member of Kittanning-East Brady Lodge No. 244 F and AM, Coudersport Consistory, Syria Shrine. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. George played baseball for many years in the Adrian and Sherrett area, and also for an all-star team while in the service. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Avanelle (Skinner) Crissman; daughter, Sheila A. Rizzardo and husband, Angelo Jr., of Ford City; son, Todd W. Crissman and wife, Barbara and her children, Dempsey, Laiken and Alivia, all of Kittanning; five beloved grandchildren, Noelle Rizzardo, of Ford City, Brienne Sheasley and husband Aaron, of Ford City, Brett Crissman (Jenna Montebell), of Worthington, Chad Crissman, of Pittsburgh, and Sean Crissman and fiancee, Stephanie Shaffer, of Kittanning. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Angela Crissman; brothers, Joseph, Fred and Paul Crissman; and sisters, Allene Yockey, Kathryn Gascoine, Mary Leda Johnston, Romaine Crissman and infant sister, Myrna Crissman. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME, in Kittanning, and from noon until 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, in Kittanning. The Rev. A. David Meneely, the Rev. John W. Snyder, and the Rev. David R. Skinner, his brother-in-law, will be officiating. Interment will be in the Croyle Cemetery.
