Birth: Jan. 22, 1848
Oppland fylke, Norway
Death: Jul. 3, 1919
Barron County
Wisconsin, USA

Olea, Mrs. Christ Hanson, the wife of a local pioneer, died on July 3, 1919 at their home in Clinton Township of stomach cancer. Services were held at the Poskin Lutheran Church and interment was in the church cemetery.

Olea Olsdtr was born on January 22, 1848 on the Sorum farm, near Gran, in the Hadeland region of Norway. Her parents were Ole Gulbrandsen and Marthe Guttormsdtr.

On June 28, 1866 Olea married Christian Hanson at Gran, Norway. Olea and Christ had two sons born in Norway: Hans C. was born on September 12, 1866 and Ole C. Hanson was born on April 5, 1869, both at the Furua farm, near Gran, Norway. The family of four left for America on April 23, 1869. They first lived near Elstad Lutheran Church, in rural Fillmore County, MN where many other folks from the Gran area had settled. Two more children were born and baptized at Elstad: Carl (born August 6, 1871) and Maren Sofie (born September 21, 1873). Carl died before 1875; Maren Sofie died between 1875 and 1880; and Hans C. died between 1880 and 1900.

In 1875 the family moved to Clinton township, Barron Co., WI where Christ homesteaded on 160 acres in Section 14. On the homestead in Wisconsin, 7 more children were born to the couple. Sadly three of them died young: Clara Josephine Hanson Rude (born in 1878 who died in 1893 shortly after giving birth to her daughter Minnie), Samuel (born January 7, 1881 and died January 17, 1881), and an unnamed baby boy (born February 16, 1892 who died later that same year).

Mrs. Hanson was known to be a most worthy woman, a loyal wife and sympathetic mother, and a generous and kindly neighbor. Of their large family of 11 children in all, only five children survived her: Ole C. Hanson, Christopher Hanson, Carrie (Mrs. William H. Rogers), Emma (Mrs. William C. Jeffery) and Sophia (Mrs. Elias Lamb). She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
