Anna Catherine was born in Niederehe, Rhine Province, Prussia (modern-day Germany) to Johann Mathias Blumendahl and Anna Magdalena Beth. She immigrated to the United States in 1863.

Anna Catherine was married to John Schneider in about 1865 in Chicago, Illinois, and they had five children.
