Birth: Apr. 2, 1792
Death: Sep. 2, 1834

born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England, son of Sarah (Cox) and William Badley, Surgeon. His father died when he was only nine years old and his elder brother was a student of Abernathy at Saint Bartholomew's Hospital in London. When John Badley, F.R.C.S. returned to Dudley he not only took over his father's practice but he also became head of the family assuming responsibility for his mother and younger brothers and sister. "Being imperious and domineering in temper"* John's actions were not always taken well by the siblings. He "was good looking, but had no abilities and no go. He also started in his brother's surgery, but gave it up and studied farming under Mr. Fong. John put his at Insetton, but he never made it pay and he planted the valuable trees his brother sent anywhere about the fields and hedges."* He got into debt and left in 1834 subsequently dying at Box Hedge soon after and is buried at Bellbroughton. It has not yet been ascertained whether he is buried at the parish church, Saint John the Baptist or at the Wesleyan burial ground, which was active at that time, because of his mother's friendship with Wesley. H. Badley; London: George Allen & Unwin, 1955.
