Bernice L. Andersen passed away on May 7, 1997 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, NE. She had attained the age of 71 years, 9 months, and 20 days.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, 1997 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, IA., with Pastor Paul Bengston and Lay Assistant Wayne Paulsen officiating. Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, IA.

Bernice Louise Andersen was born in Carberry, Manitoba, Canada on July 17, 1925. She was the daughter of Charles and Louisa Heiman Sweet. She was one of three children in the family.

At the age of two and a half, Bernice's family returned to Avoca to make their home. She attended school in Avoca and graduated with the class of 1942. Following her graduation she worked for the Journal-Herald newspaper in Avoca.

She was united in marriage to Herman Andersen on May 2, 1947 in Avoca. They were the parents of four children; Pam, Steve, Deb, and Kim.

They continued to make their home in Avoca where Bernice worked for Wendt Produce, the Fiscus Nursing Home and for over 30 years worked as a cook at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Avoca.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and much of her time was spent with her family and grandchildren. The past three and a half years they have made their home in Harlan, IA.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; Melvin and Marion. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Herman of Harlan, their four children; Pam Riche and her husband, Bret of Martinez, California, Steve Andersen and his wife Gari of Omaha, Nebraska, Deb Oliver and her husband, Steve of Dysart, Iowa, Kim Krohn and her husband, Dale of Avoca, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren besides other relatives and many friends.
