James Sturgill Burchette departed this life on June 25, 2012 after a short illness. He was born in Marion, Virginia on July 24, 1926. James served in the Army during WWII and married Etholeen Moles upon his return from active duty.

The Burchette's moved to Newport on October 15, 1957 at which time they became the new owners of Western Auto. He remained the active for 55 years as the owner and could be found each day up until a few weeks before his death greeting customers whom he called his friends. The Burchette family has been active members of the First Baptist Church of Newport where James received the honor of Deacon Emeritus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Flora Burchette, Sr., and sister, Mary Jane Johnson. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Etholeen Moles Burchette; children, David Burchette, Joe Burchette (wife Sandy) and Dan Burchette(wife Gail); grandchildren, Chad Burchette (wife Amy), Darrin Burchette, Caitlin Burchette, Brad Burchette and Andy Burchette; great grandchildren, Kiersten and Connor Burchette; brother, Herb (wife Jayne) Burchette; several sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Manes Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The family will also receive friends Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm with the funeral services following at 3:00 pm in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Rich Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in Union cemetery. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, 222 Heritage Blvd., Newport, TN 37821.
