Joshua West, of Co. A, enrolled Aug. 25, 1861 in Angola by Capt. Kinney as a Private; mustered in Sep. 25, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Maj. Carpenter at age 45. He was 5Œ 7.75 tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. Born May 14, 1814, in Baltimore, MD, employed as a farmer, married to Jerusha Vanarnum then to Rachel Culp, resident of Flint, in Steuben Co., IN. Died of disease Jul. 21, 1862 in Keokuk, IA, with rank of Private. Notes: Actual age at muster in was 47. May be uncle to Henry and Lewis in Co. A. Resident of St. Joseph Co., MI 1850. Wounded in head slightly at Shiloh. Left sick and sent to the Tennessee River from near Corinth, MS, about Jun. 10, 1862. Entered Keokuk, IA, General Hospital on Jun. 24, 1862, for typhoid fever and died Jul. 21, 1862. Buried Keokuk National Cemetery, Sec. B/Site 185, in Keokuk, IA.
