Samuel Edward Denton was born 27 June 1861 on Cedar Creek, Perry County, Tennessee near the city of Linden to Elijah Conner Denton (1825-1890)and Sarah Jane "Sallie" Martin (1839-1863). His family relocated from Perry County, Tennessee to the San Luis Valley of Southeastern Colorado in the mid 1880's due to religious persecution due to their having joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Samuel was legally blind but devoted much of his later life to family history research and temple work in the Salt Lake Genealogical Library and the Salt Lake Temple with the help of an assistant, Emma Elizabeth Clark. Samuel passed away in Salt Lake City on the 8 October 1949 at the age of 88 and is buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
