Birth: Dec. 13, 1871
Jihomoravsky (South Moravia), Czech Republic
Death: Dec. 16, 1964
Branch County
Michigan, USA

Kristina Benedik was born November 11, 1871 to Ján and Anna Benedik, in Vnorovy which is in the state of Jihomoravsky, Czech Republic. She married Joseph Bilek, also from Vnorovy, about 1897 in Vnorovy. They had four children in Vnorovy: Joseph, Marie, Anastasia "Stella" and Stefan. In 1907, Joseph and Kristina immigrated to America, leaving their children behind. In the 1910 census, they were living in Florence, Williams County, Ohio where a daughter, Olif, was born to them in 1908. (There is no further record of this daughter.)

Joseph Bilek died in 1911 which may have prompted Kristina to go back to Czechoslovakia. However, she returned to America on March 16, 1912, with her sons, Joseph Bilek age 14, and Stefan Bilek, age three. Her daughters, Marie Bilek, 15, and Anastasia Bilek followed on May 2, 1914.

Kristina's second marriage, June 22, 1915 in Williams County, Ohio, was to John Pavka who was also from Vnorovy. He was a widower with one son, Anthony, when he married Kristina. Kristina and John Pavka had one son together, Frank Pavka.

John and Kristina Pavka both had long lives; they died in Branch County, Michigan, in June 1963 and December 1964. They are both buried in the California Cemetery.

At least two of Kristina's siblings also immigrated to America: Fabian Benedik and Martin Benedik.

Kristina Pavka, 93, widow of John Pavka, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Maple Lawn hospital following a long illness. Her residence was 145 Perkins St., Coldwater.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Church at Halls Corners with the Rev. Malvin Miller in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at Halls Corners cemetery. The body will be at the Baggerly funeral home until noon Friday.

Mrs. Pavka was born December 13, 1871 in Austria/Hungary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benedict. She was a housewife all her life, and she and her husband came to the area from Chicago. She lived 30 years in California township. Her husband died in June of 1963.

Surviving are three sons, Joe of Toledo, Steve of Wexford, Pa., and Frank of Coldwater; two daughters, Mary Pavka of Ray, Ind., and Mrs. Stella Halick of Livonis; one stepson, Anthony Pavka of Ray, Ind.; 22 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
