El Camino Memorial Park cemetery is part of the Cypress View cemetery complex where his parents are buried.


For many years, his voice was the narration for the submarine ride at Disneyland.


His first wife, Vivian Merrill Young, was mother of his children, David Ross "DRY" Young and Janis Sheridan Young. Vivian does not have a tombstone. Her ashes were scattered privately by her children.

His second wife, Dorothy "Phoebe" M. Dodge, 1924-2007, is buried adjacent to him. Their memorial plaques have similar "loving memory" notation style. They were married 11 July 1968 in San Diego city, according to California Marriage records 1960-1985. At the time, they were 56 and 37. He died within the year.

Services for David Roberts Young, 57, the first director of the old Barn Theater which preceded the Old Globe Theater of which Mr. Young was also a founder and first director, will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in Coronado Mortuary. Burial will be in El Camino Memorial Park.

A native of Sacramento, Mr. Young resided in Coronado for 25 years. He was student body president at Coronado High School from which he was graduated in 1929. He attended a two-year course, specializing in directing, at Pasadena Playhouse.

Special events director

While working at the Old Globe Theater, he was director of special events at radio station KGB in San Diego and later worked for Station KHJ in Los Angeles. For five years he was in charge of the audio division at Disneyland.

He has worked for the Armed Services Radio and most recently as a radio director at the Hearing Aid Center in San Diego.

Members of Guilds

Mr. Young was a member of the Screen Writers Guild and the Performing Arts Guild.

Mr. Young, who died Monday, is survived by his widow, Dorothy, of 3229 Columbia St., a son and a daughter. The family suggests contributions to the Cancer Clinic of Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

Services for David Roberts Young, 57, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today in Coronado Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be follow in El Camino Memorial Park.

Young, who died in San Diego November 3, was a Coronado resident for 25 years. Before graduating from Coronado High School, he was Senior Class President and member of the varsity football squad.

Young was the first director of Barn Theater and later became a director of he Old Globe Theater. He then became affiliated with KGB radio, as special events manager and KHJ Radio, Los Angeles, as director of Family Theater.

Surviving him are his wife, Dorothy, San Diego; son, David Young, Leucadia; daughter, Janis Young, Reno, Nevada; and sister, Mrs. Charles Lyman, Maryland.
