Joseph Elmer Biehler was born May 28, 1907 at Easton, KS to Henry & Anna (Brose) Biehler.
J.E. Biehler was ordained a priest in 1933 and came to St. Joseph Parrish at Flush, June 18, 1935. He served there until the time of his death.
He was the school Administrator for the Flush School from 1935-1976 and also served as a science and agriculture teacher at the school from 1936-1966 (1966 being when the High School closed). From 1936-1959 he was the athletics coach at the school and the band and music teacher from 1938-1972.
He organized the Flush Alumni Association in 1967 and was honored by the USD 323 Teachers Association. Father Biehler served as the Rural Life Director for the K.C. Diocese from 1947-1972 and was president of the Pottawatomie County Teachers Association from 1957-1959. He published the Flush History in 1954 and the school's history in 1966. He had a sense of history and the importance of family roots.
He was also very active in the community. In 1957 he helped organize the Rock Creek Watershed District in Pott. Co. He helped organize the building of the parish hall in 1939, and new church rectory in 1963.
In 1983 he celebrated his Golden Jubilee, and on Sept 20, 1995 he was invested Monsignor in Kansas City, KS.
During the late 1930's he organized the Flush Picnic. The picnic attracts hundreds throughout the area each year to feast on its fried chicken dinner.
His hobbies were bee-keeping in his apiary, being a ham radio operator, reading and writing.
He is survived by a sister, Marcella Baker, Leavenworth, KS and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Flush, KS. Celebrant was Archbishop James P. Keleher of the Archdiocese of K.C., KS. Concelebrants were Bishop Marion Forst, Rev. Carl Dekat, Rev. Earl Dekat, Rev. Tom Hesse, and Rev. Allen Scheer.
Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Flush, KS.
