George Gantz, 91, pioneer western Oklahoma citizen and Durham farmer, died Sunday, February 14, 1971 at the Cheyenne hospital after a long illness. Funeral services are Wednesday at the Durham community building at 2 o'clock with interment in Fairview cemetery, Durham, Oklahoma. Rev. Ray Smart and Leland Burch will officiate.
Mr. Gantz was born August 6, 1879, in Sundhousen, Alsace Lorraine, the son of Mathias and Marquerite Burger Gantz. The family came to America in 1883 when George was four years old, along with seven brothers and sisters.
He was married November 27, 1902 to Dora Anna Lutz at Richmond, Kansas. He homesteaded in Roger Mills county in 1901 and has lived at Durham practically all his life. He was a member of the Baptist church.
His wife preceded him in death on June 1, 1958.
Survivors are his two daughters, Erma Hensley and Ima Bachmann, both of Durham; a son, Walter Gantz, Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; a daughter-in-law Mrs. Willie Doyle, Caldwell, Kansas; a brother, Will Gantz, Shattuck, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.
Pallbearers were Wesley York, Dewitt Hawkins, Bob Manhart, Donnie Chappell, Sy Churchill and Albert Smith.
Scroggins and Son Funeral Home were in charge of funeral arrangements.
