L. McN. stone. Age 78 years. Buried June 16, 2000. She was the only child of Indiana Governor Paul V. McNutt and his wife, Kathleen McNutt Watson. As a child she was stricken with tuberculosis of the spine. She willed the Indiana University Bloomington's College of Arts and Sciences a $2.12 million gift for a new fellowship program. She had a 43 year career with the United States Department of State and her last position was as United Nations Advisor in the Bureau of Far Eastern Affairs. She was a student at Indiana University when her father was named United States High Commissioner to the Philippines. She moved with her parents to the Philippines. Upon her return to the United States, she attended George Washington University in the District of Columbia, where she earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Political Science.

Her mother, Kathleen Timolat Watson, married Roy Garrett Watson (1890-1984) in 1956. He was treasurer for The Mother Church, First Church of Christ Scientist.
