Author, Journalist. Most of his works was composed of poetry and literature for children. He was author of plays, television scripts and fiction and chronic. During his career he won many awards for his works, among them the 2011 Camőes Prize, the most renowned of literature in Portuguese. Among his works are: "Aquele que quer morrer", "Atropelamento e fuga", "História com reis, rainhas, bobos, bombeiros e galinhas", "O meu rio é de ouro", "Histórias que me contaste tu", "O caminho de casa", "Os livros", "O anacronista", "Porto, modo de dizer"and "Os piratas". Before death he published in 2011 "Todas as palabras" a compilation of all his poetry. His works were translated and published in Spain, France, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Croatia, Bulgaria, Russia and the United States.
