He was born in 1922 in Gravel Hill, TN and lived in Gallatin, TN, where he married his wife, Virginia F. Carter (Mills), who preceded him in death on October 18, 2007
Hayes was the owner of Carter's Garage and Body Shop, located in the Haughville area for over 40 years. He enjoyed his career as a mechanic and Virginia was at his side in charge of administrative duties for the business.
The couple also owned a restaurant and service station.
He was a loving husband to Virginia; a caring father to his daughter, Janice Lee Carter (preceded in death); an influential grandfather for Misty Al-Eryani (Carter), Peter Anthony Carter and Jamie Michael Carter (preceded him in death), also a committed great-grandfather to Amber Nicole, Valerie Denise, Janice Lee and Ashley Lynette. Hayes also leaves to cherish him memory a host of nephews, nieces and cousins in Tennessee.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 19 in Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Lavenia and Summers Home for Funerals .
