Catherine Larkin was the daughter of James Richard Larkin and Bertha McConnell Larkin. Her maternal grandparents were John George McConnell and Amelia B Hetzel. Her paternal grandparents were John Patrick Larkin #14676669 and Catherine Cavanaugh Larkin #14676676.
Catherine had a sister, Geraldine, who was a couple of years older than her.
Catherine Larkin was a senior at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA,in 1929. The following is from the 1929 Emmanuel College yearbook, the Epilogue, for Catherine Mary Larkin of Dorchester, MA:
The activities she participated in were:
Assistant Business Manager of the Ethos, the college newspaper
A saying accompanied her photograph:
"She was sufficient of herself for happiness"
The bio below was written about Catherine and included with her photo in the yearbook.
Since registration day in our Freshman year, a happy little classmate has brightened our ranks with gladness all her own. When ever we think of Catherine, we think of her beaming, contagious smile, and her persistent good humor that just would not be frightened away by the bug-a-boo called "worry". Yet hers is not the monotonous Pollyanna smile disconcertingly present in and out of season. Sometimes Catherine's mirth is only evidenced by the almost-suppressed twinkle in her candid eyes, and at other times when seriousness is necessary, we find that Catherine can be as truly deep-thinking as her most ponderous neighbor. She is affectionately known among us as "Trot" or "Skippy", both names suggestive of our light-hearted little friend. The derivation of "Skippy" has never been definitely explained, but some of us have called "Skippy," "Trot" ever since our French 34 class, when we read about the mischievous pranks of the fun-loving "Trot"," who despite the vicissitudes of the translation struggle, won his way into tour hearts
just as our "Trot" has done during the vicissitudes of college. Didn't we all have the ‘best-ever' time at our Junior Class Day dance, when our "Trot" was one of the charming hostesses? Yes, we know that she can be serious and dignified, as her business assistance on the Ethos, and her cap-and-gown manner will so well testify, but it is true that Catherine Larkin will always be to us our delightfully merry little friend, "Trot".
