Patrick, (Pat) Carmichael was born in Scotland (instead of County Down Northern Ireland) in 1744, according to Military Records.
Patrick's Tombstone inscription contradicts this date and suggests a date closer to 1754; however, the inscription last name is also spelled "Carmichal."
Pat immigrated from Ireland shortly after the marriage in 1768 in Brand, Ireland. (Another source lists him immigrating to SC in 1767 with his Presbyterian Minister and several other families and marrying in SC in about 1773).
However, According to Patrick's (self-report) Military Records, Patrick was listed as a Private in the Virginia Troops, was born in 1744 in Scotland, and was married in 1768.
(From The National Daughters of the American Revolution, Volume 107, page 224)
Patrick was very active in buying and selling land, which provides us with much written evidence of the movements, activities and the last name spellings of his family.
The beginnings of the Prosperity A. R. P. Church occurred in 1802, evolving out of Pat's Barn near Boyd's Crossing. The Church was mentioned in William Carmichael's Will as the Prosperity Meeting House, which later became the Prosperity A. R. P. Church.
However, Patrick's tombstone says he died on November 24, 1802, aged 48 years, and is inscribed "Carmichal."
Pat was shot in the arm in the Revolutionary War and was said to have lost that arm.
Pat was thrown from a Mule in November of 1802 and died.
He married, Elizabeth Ann Thompson in Brand Ireland in 1768.
Patrick and Elizabeth were Presbyterians, helping to create what would later evolve into the Prosperity Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. This Church originally started in Pat's Barn, later growing and evolving into the beginnings of the Prosperity Meeting House.
Pat's Barn was located near Boyd's Crossing, where this Church was built in 1802. According to reports, Pat was thrown from a mule in November of 1802 and died before seeing the Church to completion. Some reports have Patrick living slightly longer, until a death of December 12, 1802.
