"Minidoka County News", Rupert, Idaho, Thursday April 19, 1928, page 10 reads:
James L. Hutchins Dies Here Suddenly
Funeral services for James L. Hutchins were held Wednesday afternoon, April 18, at two o'clock from the First Ward L.D. S. Church, Bishop David J. Borup in charge, with interment in Rupert cemetery.
Mr Hutchins, who was 59 years of age, had the misfortune to break his leg several weeks ago and before recovering from the injury took a severe cold that developed into pneumonia, causing death.
For the past four years Rupert has been his home where with his children, three sons and two daughters, he came from Kimberley, where he had lived one year before. Detroit, Michigan was his birthplace, but for a number of years Mr. Hutchins had lived in the west, spending considerable time in Utah and Colorado and it was after his wife's death in Vernal, Utah, eleven years ago that he came to Idaho.
A devoted church member and a member of the Seventies Quorum, Mr. Hutchins had been on two missions for the church. In the funeral addresses given by R. C. May and Herman P. Falls of the church presidency and Joseph L. Noble representative of the Seventies Quorum, and Lewis R. Humphries a fine tribute was paid to the work and life of the deceased.
Music was furnished by a quartet, Miss Lilas Johnson, Mrs. Emma Catmull, John Bowen and L. R. Humphries, with a solo number by John Bowen. Opening prayer was made by Arthur Humphries and benediction was pronounced by Albert Harrison.
Of the immediate family there remains Earl, Thales, Ben and Fern Hutchins who lived at home with their father, all but Earl being in attendance at Rupert high school, and a married daughter Mrs. Mabel Shelby, also living here.
Mrs. Guy Wilson of Kimberley, a sister of Mr. Hutchins, was with her brother at the time of his death and Mr. Wilson was in attendance at the funeral. There is another sister of Vernal, Utah, was also here."
